Web Design Trends This Summer

As with all things digital and marketing, web design is a discipline in a constant state of evolution.

When it comes to front-end website design elements, what previously appeared as innovative and aesthetically pleasing can look dated only a year or two down the line.

Keeping your finger on the pulse of web design trends can ensure your next web design project delights your clients and works well for their business. Here is our pick of features we expect to see trending this summer:

Creative Product Images

2D imagery showing only a portion of a retail product or one view of an item of clothing looks set to be a thing of the past.

For those still yet to be converted to the benefits of online shopping, preferring instead to see the real thing up close, creative photography may just change your mind. Brands such as Adidas have now started using 3D simulations across e-commerce product ranges to bridge the gap between the online and physical environments.

This is a web design trend that we believe will become an interactive staple for years to come, with high-resolution images giving customers the intricate detail they crave.

Brighter Colour Palettes

While printed brochures or media packs can look a little washed out when using lighter colours, a website interface is the perfect environment in which to show off the capability of the medium to display calming colour combinations.

Because dark, richer colour schemes tend to detract from the overall user experience, using lighter, brighter colour tones can complement a clean looking website. This type of palette is perfect for the likes of food and hospitality brands where imagery is at the forefront of design considerations.

Illustrations

With increasing competition online when trying to stand out, using quirky image techniques resembling older journalistic styles where black and white images would be used to offset large amounts of text is now back in fashion.

With the added benefit of illustration assets now being produced digitally, there is plenty of room to play around with formatting and symmetry so that you can create a homepage display for example that is very much unique.

The only caveat with these trends is not to get swept up in what’s new and instead ensure you choose features and elements that while modern, are also in keeping with the client’s brand.
