Link building ideas to help with your SEO campaigns

Admin • September 22, 2021
Whether you’re trying to build links back to your own personal website to build your profile as an entrepreneur, or are running an SEO campaign for a client, getting those all-important links is far from easy.

Even with great content and compelling information, it’s not always a slam dunk. While you should expect that good quality links will not come easily, there are things you can do to help your store of inbound links grow with relevant, good quality referrals. Remember, in addition to the sheer SEO power of a link, it also serves as a pathway in to your site so it’s also an important source of traffic. With that in mind, try these helpful link building ideas:

1. Approach your suppliers and partners
No matter your industry, you’ll almost certainly have relationships with suppliers and industry partners. These organisations will naturally be relevant to your brand and could be a good source of links, when approached correctly.

It could be that you have a helpful piece of content a supplier or partner may wish to share with their other customers. Perhaps they have a community initiative you could support in return for a sponsors mention? If you’re a well known business in your field, simply having your logo and a link within the ‘customers’ portion of their site could give them a boost and help you at the same time.

2. Do good with a local non-profit or community organisation
When thinking about your local town or city, you’ll more than likely be able to identify at least a couple of non-profits or community organisations doing good, whether that’s for an important cause or certain segments of the local area.

If you make a donation to support their cause, be sure to ask for a link. Many charities will have a page which showcases those who support them, making this a useful link source. If you can’t make a financial contribution, there are other ways to help. Ask your chosen organisation what else you could do to assist in their work, whether that’s speaking at an event, donating your time, hosting a fund raiser or in some other way.

3. Carry out a piece of research and share with news outlets
While it can be hard to get newspapers and magazines to share your own content, they are happy to report on the news. Carrying out a piece of independent research relating to your industry or customers is a great way to create a compelling piece of news. You’ll need to ask enough questions and survey enough people to make the data compelling; you can use MailChimp for this and survey your existing customers or lead database. This is also a great way to identify trends, which can also be valuable in other areas of your marketing.

4. Design an infographic
Infographics are inherently shareable. Creating an infographic which curates fun stats, or breaks down a complex topic into something more digestible is an easy way to start building more links.
